Mid-Boyd Crusher and Sample Divider Test Results

With many of our customers having requested documented evidence of their adherence to sample preparation standards, Scott recently had the privilege of obtaining a comprehensive performance test report for our Boyd crusher and sample dividers.

Scott recently had the privilege of obtaining a comprehensive performance test report for our Boyd crusher and sample dividers. This test was conducted with a Rocklabs Smart Boyd-LSD against one of our main Competing Crusher Machines (CCM) by Richard Minnitt, a globally recognised expert in sample preparation, at an SGS laboratory in Perth, Australia. We believe that the report has provided valuable insights into our equipment's capabilities.

The Rocklabs Boyd-RSD and Smart Boyd-LSD machines are among the most widely used crusher-splitter combinations in sample preparation. Many of our customers have requested documented evidence of their adherence to sample preparation standards.

This report specifically focuses on Scott's new Smart Mid Boyd-LSD, which combines the features of the Mid-Boyd crusher and the Linear Sample Divider (LSD).

Summary of the results

Crushing Efficiency:

The report evaluates the crushing efficiency of the Mid Boyd and a competing CCM machine, with a focus on achieving a 75% passing rate at 2mm. The analysis of crushing time, crushing rate, and jaw gap measurements for varying particle size distributions revealed a consistent trend. As the percentage passing 2mm increased from 65% to 95%, the crush rate decreased. Ultimately, the Mid Boyd exhibited a faster average crushing rate on all percentages passed compared to the CCM machine.

Sample Split Consistency:

One critical aspect of our evaluation was the consistency of the 350g splits into the left-hand (LHS) and right-hand (RHS) sample jars.

For the Boyd-LSD, a paired two-sample t-test on 24 samples showed sample masses of 350.56g for LHS and 350.81g for RHS, with precision rates of 1.15% and 1.11% respectively.

In contrast, the CCM machine, tested on 18 samples, produced sample masses of 380.04g for RHS and 352.53g for LHS, with precision rates of 7.26% and 10.59% respectively.

The Boyd-LSD consistently demonstrated precise and accurate splitting between the two sample jars, particularly evident with the 11.55kg of quartz and basalt samples.

Indicator Additives:

Experiments using indicator additives showcased the Boyd-LSD's superior precision over traditional riffle and rotary splitters, which are industry standards for mass reduction devices. This outstanding performance establishes the Boyd-LSD as a leader among crusher-splitter devices in the market.
